Property Tax/Rent Rebate Checks Have Been MailedPosted By Lifestyles over 50 - on Jul 9, 2013
Starting this week, more than 482,000 older homeowners, renters and people with disabilities across Pennsylvania will be issued rebates totaling $226.9 million through the Property Tax/Rent Rebate Program. In addition, more than 149,000 applicants who opted for direct deposit will receive their rebates more immediately.
The rebate program benefits eligible Pennsylvanians age 65 and older; widows and widowers age 50 and older; and people with disabilities age 18 and older. The income limit is $35,000 a year for homeowners and $15,000 annually for renters, and half of Social Security income is excluded.
Eligible citizens who have not yet applied have until the end of the year to do so. In response to continued inquiries and complaints regarding fee-based application filing services offered privately, the department reminds residents that free filing help is available at hundreds of locations across the state. Application forms and assistance are also available at no cost from Department of Revenue district offices, local Area Agencies on Aging, senior centers and state legislators' offices. Claimants who already applied for rebates may check the status of their claims online at www.revenue.state.pa.us or by calling, toll-free, 1-888-PATAXES.
